Mr. Smith dropped of his 94Z32TT for some more upgrades. You can read about his last visit here.
This time we added a set of adjustable BDE Intake Cam Gears and performed cam tuning on all four cams. A Blitz boost controller was installed to replace the obsolete and non-functioning Greddy Profec-B.
Covers off and ready to tune. Once we finished we installed the covers.
A boost controller worth every penny it costs.
Our patient tied down and hooked up to monitoring equipment.
The blue run was his previous best from its last visit. Red is with the new boost controller and cam tuning. This is on 91 octane. Look at how much sooner our boost comes in.
100 octane
Q16. So close to the that magical number. What’s even more impressive is Scott is still leaving alot on the table. He’s still on the stock intercooler piping of 2″! Although peak power may not be greatly affected its the low & mid-range that will see the greatest benefit. Now he just needs to working on driving down that 1320. 😉
Seb how many hours would you say it took yall to install the cam gears and get it all put back together?
Depends, just getting the cam gears on and leaving the covers off didn’t take too long. Tuning and reassembly (re-installing the covers) added some time to it all.
What a huge difference with dialing in the adjustable cam gears! Glad Greg talked me into getting a set. Now, they just need to be dialed in 🙂
Wow impressive gains, what changes to the cam timing do you adjust?? i have adjustable intake and exhaust cams but they are running no adjustment ..
ive heard retarding the exhaust cams improves spool
dang, what lag
Nice job guys ,Scott definitely needs to get some breather mods .
Seb, where did the gains come from, intake or exhaust, or both combined? For so long now we have been told to keep BDE VTC gears and go with adjustable Adjustable Exhaust, thinking VTC outweighs the gains from intake adjustability. What are your thoughts? It’s not too late on my current build to go to BDE adj intake sprockets but wanted to get another opinion after seeing such a monster setup!
Hi Matt
Most from the exhaust and some from the intakes. The VTC does make up for alot of the gains but dialing it in further does help especially on engines that have been machined.
Correction Seb, he needs to let Dean drive it down the 1320 🙂
Not to discredit Dean (automatic driver) 😉 a stick shift master needs to get in there. Scott’s last visit to the strip almost got him that 10 second pass.
I know Scott can drive 🙂 He’s the only other person to drive my old Z. And Dean is an Autoqueen 😛
I enjoy driving this car on a weekly basis. You guys did a phenomenal job. And yes, close to that 10s pass, but need to dedicate an entire DAY to doing 1320′ passes, not this 3 or 4 passes crap in bracket racing. 🙂
